Confession Prayer Week of October 12, 2025
Call to Confession:
As we enter into a time of confession together, a way we regularly take seriously our sin and lay it before God, let’s prepare our hearts by hearing these words from Matthew 10:
“Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.”
Prayer of Confession:
Heavenly Father, too easily we become fearful and distressed when it seems like life is out of control. We quickly forget your awesome power that is over all things, and as a result act as if our futures lay entirely within our own grasp. Forgive us for our faithless fear and for its opposite: our self-confident pride.
Lord Jesus, thank you for your humble and constant trust in your Father. Holy Spirit, teach us how to trust like that, believing in God’s sovereign power and goodness. Give us wisdom and a desire to turn to you whenever we face trouble.
Help us to walk alongside each other in these difficult times, bearing one another’s burdens and reminding each other of the certain outcome of the life that is set before us: a joyous welcome into our Father’s arms, both now and forever. Amen.
Assurance of Pardon:
In the scriptures we find assurances of our forgiveness and encouragement in our walk. So hear these words from Hebrews 12 and rest in their truth for us…
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”
