Confession Prayer Week of May 25, 2025
Call to Confession:
As we enter into a time of confession together, a way we regularly take seriously our sin and lay it before God, let’s prepare our hearts by hearing these words from Proverbs 9:
Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser;
teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.
Prayer of Confession:
Holy God,
We thank you for the wisdom by which you made and ordered this world, working all things according to your holy will. Lord, we confess that we often lack wisdom. Forgive us for the ways we have chosen to trust the wisdom of the world instead of what you have revealed to us in your word.
Lord, help us to stop seeking to define for ourselves what is good or bad in our relationships, our speech, and our work. Help us to turn our trust back to you, and give us hearts that desire and pursue your wisdom each day, that we might be transformed more into your likeness. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
Assurance of Pardon:
In the scriptures we find assurances of our forgiveness and encouragement in our walk. So hear these words from 1 Corinthians 1, and rest in its truth for us today:
But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption.
