Confession Prayer Week of January 26, 2025

Call to Confession:

As we enter into a time of confession together, let’s prepare our hearts by hearing these words from Matthew 7:

Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.  And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.  And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.  And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.

Prayer of Confession:

Holy Father, We know that you love us and care for us with perfect strength, love and commitment, yet we often find it hard to trust in you for our spiritual, physical, and emotional safety. We try to protect ourselves against the storms of life instead of turning to you. Or we turn to distraction or sin as we try to hide from our problems and in turn, hide from you. Lord, forgive us for our weakness.

Holy Spirit, give us grace to trust and rest in you. Remind us often of our perfect safety in Christ. May our confidence in Him help us move toward one another, and into this scary world, with love and kindness. Fill us each day with bold, joyful gratitude that enables us to confidently bear witness within Jesus’s grace. In His name we pray, Amen.

Assurance of Pardon:

In the scriptures we find assurances of our forgiveness and encouragement in our walk. So hear these words from Psalm 27 and rest in their truth for us:

One thing have I asked of the Lord,

    that will I seek after:

that I may dwell in the house of the Lord

    all the days of my life,

to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord

    and to inquire in his temple.

For he will hide me in his shelter

    in the day of trouble;

he will conceal me under the cover of his tent;

    he will lift me high upon a rock.
