Confession Prayer Week of September 29, 2024
Call to Confession:
As we enter into a time of confession together, let’s prepare our hearts by hearing these words from Exodus 20:
And God spoke all these words, saying,: “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. “You shall have no other gods before me.
Prayer of Confession:
Everlasting Father,
Your kindness and love are beyond anything we could even dream to understand. Your mercy and presence go with us every day. And yet Lord, even when our mouths may confess our devotion to you, our hearts are slow to follow. We are reluctant to follow you with our whole lives, often giving you the leftovers of our attention after we’ve spent our best time chasing things of this world.
Father, forgive us. Holy Spirit, give us grace to grieve the moments that we have turned your good gifts into false gods and worshipped them instead of you. Lord, satisfy our minds with a depth of knowledge of Jesus that might draw us toward delight in Him. Draw us back to the cross, where his love was poured out for us. In Jesus’ holy name we pray, Amen.
Assurance of Pardon:
In the scriptures we find assurances of our forgiveness and encouragement in our walk. So hear these words from 1 John 3 and rest in their truth for us…
See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.
