Confession Prayer Week of February 2, 2025

Feb 2, 2025

Call to Confession:

As we enter into a time of confession together, let’s prepare our hearts by hearing these words from Romans 2:

God has been very kind to you, and he has been patient with you. God has been waiting for you to change. But you think nothing of his kindness. Perhaps you do not understand that God is kind to you so that you will change your hearts and lives.

Prayer of Confession:

Heavenly Father,

Your kindness to us in Christ is beautiful. In Jesus, you have given us freedom from our sin. Every mean thought we have, every selfish action we take, every unkind word we have spoken — Father, we ask for forgiveness, knowing we have already been redeemed by the loving sacrifice Jesus made for us.

Thank you for your tenderness toward us in our weakness. Draw our hearts to praise, joy, and further courage to come to you. Holy Spirit, draw us into awe with the love of our kind and powerful God. Help us to grow in love, kindness, gentleness, and dependence on you. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Assurance of Pardon:

In the scriptures we find assurances of our forgiveness and encouragement in our walk. So hear these words from Psalm 103 and rest in their truth for us:

The Lord shows mercy and is kind.

He does not become angry quickly, and he has great love.

He will not always scold us.

He will not be angry forever.

He has not punished us as our sins should be punished.

He has not repaid us for the evil we have done.

As high as the sky is above the earth,

so great is his love for those who respect him.
