Confession Prayer Week of January 18, 2026
Call to Confession:
As we enter into a time of confession together, a way we regularly take seriously our sin and lay it before God, let’s prepare our hearts by hearing these words from Psalm 57:
Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me,
for in you my soul takes refuge;
in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge,
till the storms of destruction pass by.
I cry out to God Most High,
to God who fulfills his purpose for me.
He will send from heaven and save me;
he will put to shame him who tramples on me.
God will send out his steadfast love and his faithfulness!
Prayer of Confession:
Heavenly Father, We confess with our lips the blessedness of taking refuge in you, but our lives often proclaim a different story. We sing of the wonders of your love, but we have grumbled and complained about what you have called us to. We declare that we long for your coming, but in truth we are often more focused on the gifts that you give us than in you yourself. Father, forgive us.
Lord Jesus, thank you that you are the King who rules in truth and grace. Thank you for resting perfectly in your Father’s wisdom and care. Holy Spirit, guide us in that example. Give us renewed hearts that delight to serve and worship you, bringing light and peace to those around us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Assurance of Pardon:
In the scriptures we find assurances of our forgiveness and encouragement in our walk. So hear these words from Zephaniah 3 and rest in their truth for us…
Sing aloud, O daughter of Zion;
shout, O Israel!
Rejoice and exult with all your heart,
O daughter of Jerusalem!
The Lord has taken away the judgments against you;
he has cleared away your enemies.
The King of Israel, the Lord, is in your midst;
you shall never again fear evil…
The Lord your God is in your midst,
a mighty one who will save;
he will rejoice over you with gladness;
he will quiet you by his love;
he will exult over you with loud singing.
