Confession Prayer Week of November 23, 2025

Nov 23, 2025

Call to Confession:

As we enter into a time of confession together, a way we regularly take seriously our sin and lay it before God, let’s prepare our hearts by hearing these words Jesus spoke to the Pharisees in Matthew 15:

You hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, when he said:

“‘This people honors me with their lips,

    but their heart is far from me;

in vain do they worship me,

    teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’”

Prayer of Confession:

Merciful and Mighty God,

You alone deserve all of our adoration and praise. We should be filled with awestruck wonder that we belong to you, our only wise King. Yet we confess that instead of being amazed by this, we have often grown bored with the obligation to gather with your people for worship.

Lord, forgive us. In Jesus we are counted as perfect worshipers, and we praise you for this wonderful gift. Holy Spirit, stir our lazy hearts with gratitude. Open our eyes to see all that is ours in Christ, until we can’t help but praise him.

May the knowledge of what we deserve, and the reality of what we have received, melt our hard hearts with joy, fill our bored minds with delight, and fill our mouths with melodies of praise. In Jesus’ holy name we pray, Amen.

Assurance of Pardon:

In the scriptures we find assurances of our forgiveness and encouragement in our walk.  So hear these words from Hebrews 12 and rest in their truth for us…

At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “Yet once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.” This phrase, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of things that are shaken—that is, things that have been made—in order that the things that cannot be shaken may remain. Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.
