Confession Prayer Week of December 8, 2024
Call to Confession:
As we enter into a time of confession together, let’s prepare our hearts by hearing these words from Romans 8:
The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him. For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.
Prayer of Confession:
Most high and loving God,
Sometimes we are full of worry and fear, easily troubled, but you are forever at perfect peace. You are the same yesterday, today, and forever. You are present in every part of this world, taking great care, working all things together for the good of your people and the glory of your name. Father, we thank you, worship you, and proclaim that you are worthy of our trust.
Forgive us for the times we are distracted by the world, weak in our faith, doubtful of your goodness, and turn to sin when we fail to trust you. God, thank you for your Son, who suffered and by that suffering, showed us what it looks like to trust you fully. Give us grace to draw ever closer to you, your ways, and your perfect peace. Amen.
Assurance of Pardon:
In the scriptures we find assurances of our forgiveness and encouragement in our walk. So hear these words from Philippians 3 and rest in their truth for us:
But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him.
