Confession Prayer Week of May 31, 2026

May 31, 2026

Call to Confession:

Each Sunday we take a moment to confess and repent alongside one another, it’s a way we regularly take seriously our sin and lay it before God. Let’s prepare our hearts by hearing these words from Galatians 2 in the Message translation:

Have some of you noticed that we are not yet perfect? (No great surprise, right?) And are you ready to make the accusation that since people like me, who go through Christ in order to get things right with God, aren’t perfectly virtuous, Christ must therefore be an accessory to sin? The accusation is frivolous. If I was “trying to be good,” I would be rebuilding the same old barn that I tore down. I would be acting as a pretender.

Prayer of Confession:

Heavenly Father,

As these verses suggest, we are not perfect. And yet how often do we try to make ourselves better instead of resting in who you are, and who you’ve said we are? You’ve called us beloved, redeemed, forgiven, made new. Not because of what we’ve done, but because of Jesus. Forgive us for forgetting.

Holy Spirit, thank you for nudging us ever closer to you. Thank you for working in and through us even as we stumble our way through this life. Help us to embrace living in the truth of our faith in Jesus, who is always with us and always good and trustworthy. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon:

In the scriptures we find assurances of our forgiveness and encouragement in our walk.  So hear the continuation of these words Galatians 2 in the Message translation and rest in their truth for us:

Indeed, I have been crucified with Christ. My ego is no longer central. It is no longer important that I appear righteous before you or have your good opinion, and I am no longer driven to impress God. Christ lives in me. The life you see me living is not “mine,” but it is lived by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I am not going to go back on that.
