Confession Prayer Week of August 18, 2024

Aug 18, 2024

Call to Confession:

As we enter into a time of confession together, let’s prepare our hearts by hearing these words from Psalm 8:

O Lord, our Lord,

how majestic is your name in all the earth!

You have set your glory above the heavens.

Out of the mouth of babies and infants,

you have established strength because of your foes,

to still the enemy and the avenger.

When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,

the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,

what is man that you are mindful of him,

and the son of man that you care for him?

Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings

and crowned him with glory and honor.

Prayer of Confession:

Holy, Beloved Lord,

In the beginning you breathed life into us, sharing your very own breath. You give life to body and soul; each day continuing to give, and inviting us to share what you’ve so freely given to us with others. And yet, so often Lord, we take it for granted. Forgive us.

Forgive us for keeping your gifts to ourselves or only sharing with those we deem worthy. Help us to breathe and live in a way that reflects you well to all. With joy and gratitude, we praise you. To you God, all praise and glory. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon:

In the scriptures we find assurances of our forgiveness and encouragement in our walk. So hear these words from 2 Peter 1 and rest in their truth for us…

His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge,  and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love.
