Confession Prayer Week of December 22, 2024

Call to Confession: 

As we enter into a time of confession together, let’s prepare our hearts by hearing these words from Colossians 3:

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

Prayer of Confession: 

Holy God,

You are the God who speaks and acts — you spoke and created the universe; you spoke and redeemed your people; you spoke and commanded us to obey your wise and good laws, which would lead to blessing and wholeness.  

But we, like many before us, have often ignored or forgotten your Word. We seek guidance from friends or the internet instead of seeking the truth from you. We give in to temptation to feed our desires or to simply make our lives easier. Father, forgive us.

Stir up our lazy and disobedient hearts. Energize us with a fresh enthusiasm for your Word. Show us Jesus on every page; stir our souls to strive toward holiness, while comforting us with reminders of the freedom and forgiveness we already have in Christ. We pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Assurance of Pardon: 

In the scriptures we find assurances of our forgiveness and encouragement in our walk. So hear these words from 1 John 1 and rest in their truth for us:

That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life… we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.
