Confession Prayer Week of September 15, 2024
Call to Confession:
As we enter into a time of confession together, let’s prepare our hearts by hearing these words from Psalm 119:
Let my cry come before you, O Lord;
give me understanding according to your word!
Let my plea come before you;
deliver me according to your word.
My lips will pour forth praise,
for you teach me your statutes.
My tongue will sing of your word,
for all your commandments are right.
Let your hand be ready to help me,
for I have chosen your precepts.
I long for your salvation, O Lord,
and your law is my delight.
Let my soul live and praise you,
and let your rules help me.
I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek your servant,
for I do not forget your commandments.
Prayer of Confession:
Father of Mercy, thank you for all the ways you remind us that we are yours. Help our voices sing your praises, and guide our hearts and ears to listen to your direction. You are good and trustworthy; you are faithful and merciful. Father, forgive us for the ways we choose to live apart from what you have deemed good.
Lord, help us to remember who you are and out of that turn our lives more toward you, bringing others along as we go. You are worthy of our devotion, draw us close to you. Amen.
Assurance of Pardon:
In the scriptures we find assurances of our forgiveness and encouragement in our walk. So hear these words in Isaiah 65 and rest in their truth for us…
See, I will create
new heavens and a new earth.
The former things will not be remembered,
nor will they come to mind.
But be glad and rejoice forever
in what I will create,
for I will create Jerusalem to be a delight
and its people a joy.
I will rejoice over Jerusalem
and take delight in my people;
the sound of weeping and of crying
will be heard in it no more.
