Confession Prayer Week of September 28, 2025
Call to Confession:
As we enter into a time of confession together, a way we regularly take seriously our sin and lay it before God, let’s prepare our hearts by hearing these words from Mark 4:
On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side.” And leaving the crowd, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. And other boats were with him. And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?”
Prayer of Confession:
Faithful Father, we confess how often we look around us and focus on a world that feels dangerous and out of control. We become afraid that there are storms on all sides, waves that are ready to swamp our little boats and drown us and the ones we love. How easily we forget that you are the Creator God who rules the wind and waves. Forgive us.
Lord Jesus, thank you for entering the storms of life with us. When we might doubt God’s love and care because of the weight of our circumstances, you gave us a perfect example of surrendering confidently into the hands of our sovereign Father. Holy Spirit, teach us to trust you with our whole selves, through all things. In Jesus’ holy name, Amen.
Assurance of Pardon:
In the scriptures we find assurances of our forgiveness and encouragement in our walk. So hear the rest of these words from Mark 4 and rest in their truth for us:
And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?” And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”
