Confession Prayer Week of January 19, 2025

Jan 19, 2025

Call to Confession:

As we enter into a time of confession together, let’s prepare our hearts by hearing these words from 1 Peter 4:

Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.  But rejoice insofar as you share Christ's sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed.

Prayer of Confession:

Heavenly Father,

We live in a distracting and frightening world. When we hear of wars, we are tempted to turn to politicians to rescue us. When faced with illness, we turn to doctors and diets. When friendships fail and relationships disappoint, we struggle with anger and bitterness. In our fear and distraction, we often forget that you are powerful and loving and are devoted to your children.

Father, forgive us. Thank you for your great patience with us. Help us to want to thank you when our best plans fail or when struggles are near, so that we will learn that you are wiser, stronger, kinder, and more loving than we ever dreamed possible. Thank you for Christ, who faced fear and suffering by turning to you again and again. Help us to do the same. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon:

In the scriptures we find assurances of our forgiveness and encouragement in our walk. So hear these words from 1 Peter 5 and rest in their truth for us:

And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.  To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
