Confession Prayer Week of May 17, 2026

May 17, 2026

Call to Confession:

Each Sunday we take a moment to confess and repent alongside one another.  We practice putting down our sin and our timing, and instead rest in the Lord.  As it says in Psalm 27: “Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!”  This is an opportunity to wait on the Lord and rest in him, to receive God’s mercy and share together in His abundant grace.

Prayer of Confession:

Loving Heavenly Father, We ask that, by your Spirit, you would help us to admit what is true about ourselves.  Help us to see our sin for what it is, help us to see our need for you.  Forgive us for the ways we often put our trust and rest in things that are not of you.

Lord, help us to return again and again to the truth of who you are, and who we are in you. Help us to take courage to follow you more closely, even when it feels difficult.  You are worth our love and devotion.  We are grateful for Jesus and the Holy Spirit, who are with us always in this pursuit.  Amen.

Assurance of Pardon:

In the scriptures we find assurances of our forgiveness and encouragement in our walk.  So hear these words from Psalm 40 and rest in their truth for us:

I waited patiently for the Lord;

    he inclined to me and heard my cry.

He drew me up from the pit of destruction,

    out of the miry bog,

and set my feet upon a rock,

    making my steps secure.

He put a new song in my mouth,

    a song of praise to our God.

Many will see and fear,

    and put their trust in the Lord.

As for you, O Lord, you will not restrain

    your mercy from me;

your steadfast love and your faithfulness will

    ever preserve me!
